Superior Quartz Products' air cooled xenon short arc lamps, also known as compact arc lamps, provide the highest luminance and radiance of any continuously operated light source. The lamps produce a highly stable uniform light source in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared spectral ranges. A wide range of configurations are offered, with power levels ranging from 150 watts to 10,000 watts and orientations can be vertical or horizonal. The luminous efficacy of the lamps varies from 15 to 45 lumens per watt depending on the lamp wattage. Most short arc lamps are designed to run in a direct current (DC) configuration, however alternating current (AC) configurations are also available. Superior manufactures exclusive OEM designs and non-exclusive Distributor replacement lamps for a variety of applications.

The bulbs are precisely formed into a spherical or ellipsoidal shape using the highest quality quartz and are available as either ozone producing or ozone free. The ozone free quartz blocks wavelengths below 254 nanometers, thereby preventing the creation of ozone by the interaction of air and the wavelengths lower than 254 nanometers. The lamps, filled only xenon gas, reach eighty percent of their total output immediately after ignition. The output of the xenon short arc lamp provides high intensity light similar to daylight with a color temperature of approximately 6000 degrees Kelvin. For special applications, mercury can be added to the lamps to shift the light distribution to increase the ultraviolet output of the lamp.
